How we install new siding

  1. Measure and estimate. We measure every wall, note the trim details and give you a written scope.
  2. Permit. Siding permits are required in Waukegan and many nearby towns. The permit placard stays visible from the street during the work.
  3. Tear-off and repair. Old siding comes off, and damaged sheathing is repaired before anything new goes on.
  4. Barrier and flashing. House wrap and flashing at openings are installed, ready for the barrier inspection where required.
  5. Siding and trim. New panels, corners and trim are installed square and level.
  6. Final and cleanup. The final inspection is scheduled where required and the site is cleaned.

Siding for lakefront weather

Homes in Waukegan, Zion and Winthrop Harbor take wind straight off Lake Michigan, and every Lake County house goes through long freeze-thaw winters. Water that gets behind the siding freezes and expands, which is what loosens panels and rots the sheathing. A properly installed water-resistive barrier and tight flashing at every window and door are what keep that from happening.

Part of a complete exterior

Siding works best with the parts of the house around it. If your roof, gutters or trim also need work, we can plan it together so the whole exterior is done in the right order. Call (224) 772-4836 or request a free estimate.

Siding Installation FAQ

Siding Installation questions in Lake County

How do I know if my siding needs to be replaced?

Warped, cracked or loose panels, soft spots underneath, peeling paint inside on exterior walls, rising energy bills and mold or mildew along the seams are all signs. If only a few panels are damaged, a repair may be enough.

Do I need a permit to replace siding in Waukegan?

Yes. Waukegan requires a permit for all siding work, with a barrier inspection and a final inspection. The permit placard has to be visible from the street while the work is done.

What is house wrap and do I need it?

House wrap is a water-resistive barrier installed over the sheathing before the siding goes on. It sheds any water that gets past the siding. Waukegan requires it on houses (detached accessory structures are the exception).

Can you replace just part of my siding?

Often, yes. If the damage is limited to one wall or a few panels, we can replace that section. Matching color and profile on older siding can be hard, and we will tell you up front how close the match will be.

How long does a siding project take?

It depends on the size of the house, how much trim work is involved and the inspections your town requires. You get a timeline with your estimate.
