FAQ

Questions homeowners ask us most

How long does a roof last in northern Illinois?

It depends on the material, the quality of the install and how well the attic is ventilated. Freeze-thaw winters, ice dams and summer storms age roofs here faster than in milder climates, which is why a yearly check is worth it. A roof inspection tells you where yours stands.

What causes ice dams and how do I prevent them?

Heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the roof, and the water refreezes at the colder eaves. Good attic insulation and ventilation are the long-term fix, and ice and water shield at the eaves protects the roof when dams do form. Clean, well-pitched gutters help too.

Do I need a permit for roofing work in Waukegan?

Yes. Waukegan requires a permit for all roofing work, with possible exemptions for repairs under 1 square. Siding work also requires a permit. Other towns have their own rules, and we check them for your address.

What does an Illinois roofing license mean for me?

Illinois requires roofers to hold a state license and to show the license number on contracts, bids and advertising. You can verify any license at idfpr.illinois.gov. Ours are #104.019312 and #105.010151.

Can a roofer pay my insurance deductible?

No. Illinois does not allow roofing contractors to pay or rebate any part of an insurance deductible. Be cautious with anyone who offers. See our storm damage page for how we help after a storm.

Do you offer financing?

We do not offer financing. Payment is 60% at contract signing and 40% when the job is complete.

Is there a minimum project size?

No. We handle small roof repairs and full roof replacements, as well as siding, soffit and fascia, carpentry, decks, fences and pergolas.

Do you work in Wisconsin?

Yes. We serve southeastern Wisconsin, including Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha, Racine and north to Milwaukee. See all our service areas.

What happens at a free estimate?

We look at the roof or the area of the project, take measurements, answer your questions and give you a written estimate. It usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Request one here.
