Our Roofing Process

No surprises. Here is exactly what happens from the first call to the final cleanup, so you know what to expect at every step of your roof replacement.

Before the work starts

Every project starts with a conversation. Call (224) 772-4836 or request a free estimate and we set a time to come out, Monday through Saturday between 6 AM and 8 PM.

If a storm damaged your roof, the inspection is also where we document the damage. We can guide you through the insurance process, but we are not adjusters and do not file claims for homeowners. Read more on our storm damage page.

During the install

On install day the crew sets up tarps and protection around the house, tears the old roof off down to the deck and checks every sheet of plywood. Damaged decking is replaced, then the new roof goes on in layers: ice and water shield at the eaves, underlayment, flashing, vents and shingles.

After the roof is on

We clean up the job site, run a magnet for loose nails and haul away the old materials. The final 40% payment is due once the job is complete, and your labor is covered by our 4-year warranty.

The same care goes into our siding, gutters and deck projects, with the steps adjusted for each job.

Step by step

The six steps of a roof replacement

  1. 01

    Roof inspection

We get on the roof, check shingles, flashing, vents and the deck, and show you what we find. If there is storm damage, we can walk you through the insurance process.

  2. 02

    Free estimate

A clear written estimate with the scope of work explained line by line. The visit usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

  3. 03

    Contract

You sign only when the scope, materials and schedule make sense to you. 60% is due at signing and 40% when the job is done.

  4. 04

    Tear-off and deck check

We remove the old roof down to the deck and check every sheet of plywood. Soft or rotted wood gets replaced before anything new goes on.

  5. 05

    New roof installed

Underlayment, flashing, vents and shingles go on in order. Most homes take 1 to 3 days, depending on the size of the roof.

  6. 06

    Final cleanup

We clean up the yard and driveway, run a magnet for loose nails and haul away the old materials.

FAQ

Questions about the process

How long does the whole process take?

The install itself takes 1 to 3 days for most homes. Before that, the estimate, contract, permit and material delivery set the start date, which we confirm with you when you sign.

Do I need to be home during the roof replacement?

You do not need to be home while we work. It helps to move cars out of the driveway and away from the house before the tear-off starts.

What happens if you find rotted plywood?

We replace it before the new roof goes on. Damaged decking cannot be seen until the old roof is off, so we explain how replaced plywood is handled in your contract.

How are payments handled?

60% is due when you sign the contract and 40% when the job is complete.

Will there be nails in my yard?

We run a magnet over the yard and driveway during cleanup to pick up loose nails, and haul away all the old roofing materials.
