Signs you need exterior carpentry repairs
- Soft or spongy wood around windows, doors and the roof edge

- Stair treads or railings that move or flex
- Gaps where trim has pulled away from the house
- Dark stains or mushrooms growing on wood
- Insects around damaged wood
How we approach a carpentry repair
- Find out why. Rot is almost always a water problem. We look at gutters, flashing and caulking around the damage.
- Open it up. Damaged wood comes out until we reach solid material.
- Rebuild solid. New framing, boards and trim are cut and fit to match the existing details.
- Seal it. Joints are sealed and the wood is ready for paint or stain to keep water out.
- Clean up. Old material is hauled away.
Carpentry that supports the rest of the job
Carpentry is part of almost every exterior project. A new roof needs a solid deck, new siding needs straight framing and new gutters need sound fascia. Having one crew handle the carpentry along with the roofing and siding means repairs happen at the right time, not after the fact.
Wood and Lake County weather
Freeze-thaw cycles open small cracks in paint and caulk, water gets into the end grain and the wood breaks down from the inside. Near Lake Michigan, wind-driven rain makes it worse. Regular checks of trim and railings, and quick repairs, keep small problems from turning into structural ones. Call (224) 772-4836 or request a free estimate.
